The Counter Information Agency Infocafe is an autonomous open public space in a squatted building. We aim to to counter corporate and government control of information , meaning its production, distribution, censorship, copyright etc. by providing a place for non mainstrean information, free or cheap food and drink and a space for projects to present their projects , workshops , events and information.

The infocafe is very much a local project based firmly in the community whilst at the same time providing free access to information on global issues.

Since spring 2002, we are once again in the east of Amsterdam, our address is 3e Oosterparkstraat 166. This street is a bit of a legend from the time that the whole area was squatted, and many old squatters are living there still in social housing. The new infocafe is directly opposite the neighbourhood centre in this diverse multicultural area of Amsterdam.

Our bright and comfortable new infocafe has a garden to relax in, where we will be making herb planting workshops in the springtime. We will soon be offering free internet access too. Our info archives are bigger than ever and can be used to research for journals, contacts, local campaigns etc or just to learn at leisure. We always have the latest magazines from around Europe on the racks for reference, titles such as Ravage, New Internationalist, and many more. We will be continuing the success of our infonights, see HISTORY for more on our previous events, bringing the most important marginalised issues to life and bringing people together.

We are also including another local project into the infocafe place. A kraakspreekuur for our area, a free squatting advisory collective.

We offer delicious and satisfying vegetarian food and drinks with tasty vegan options too, all at a low price or whenever possible, free.

So come to the infocafe and enjoy some good food, for both the body and brain!
